    L’articolo analizza un appunto autografo di Giovanni Pascoli in cui il poeta trascrive i titoli di una serie di scritti di autori francesi (M. Bréal, A. Fouillée, A. Rambaud ed altri) che trae dalla Revue des deux mondes. Particolarmente degna d’attenzione la citazione di uno scritto di Michel Bréal, L’histoire des mots, che Pascoli definisce “importante” per il “libro di elementi” (i progettati e mai realizzati Elementi di letteratura). Pur non essendo una fonte diretta dell’opera pascoliana, nel saggio di Bréal si trovano non pochi punti di contatto con la riflessione del poeta sulla lingua della poesia (negli Elementi e non solo), che denotano una certa comunanza di pensiero tra i due autori. Tra gli altri titoli citati ci sono un saggio di A. Fouillée di chiara impostazione anti-idealistica, e uno scritto su Federico II di A. Rambaud

    Language, philosophy and history: two works by Michel Bréal an Alfred Fouillée read by Pascoli on the Revue des deux mondes: the essay analyzes an autograph note by Giovanni Pascoli in which the poet lists titles of works by French authors (M. Bréal, A. Fouillée, A. Rambaud and more) taken from the Revue des deux mondes. Particularly interesting is the mention of Michel Bréal’s L’histoire des mots, which Pascoli calls “important” for the “book of elements” (i.e. the unfinished Elementi di letteratura). Despite L’histoire des mots is not a primary source of the linguistics of Pascoli, the two authors have a lot in common: many ideas expressed by Bréal are similar to Pascoli’s thoughts about language in poetry, as they are stated in the outlines of the Elementi and in other works. Other works mentioned in the note are an anti-idealistic essay by A. Fouillée, and a short biography of Frederick II by A. Rambaud.
