Resumen de Interculturalidad y mediación cultural en el ámbito sanitario. Descripción de la implementación de un programa de mediación intercultural en el Servicio de Salud de Castilla-La Mancha

    Los servicios públicos (sanitarios, educativos, administrativos) deben atender a personas que no dominan el castellano, superando barreras producidas por las diferencias culturales y lingüísticas entre usuario y proveedores de servicios. El Servicio de Salud de Castilla-La Mancha (SESCAM) mantiene desde el 2007 un «programa de interculturalidad» (interpretación telefónica multilingüe, guías multilingües para pacientes, mediación intercultural y formación de profesionales). Aunque varios de estos proyectos se interrumpieron en 2011 por dificultades presupuestarias, el programa de formación de profesionales, se ha mantenido sin interrupción hasta la actualidad. En este artículo se presentan las características de ese programa, en el que está participando activamente la Universidad de Alcalá.

    Public sPublic service providers in the health care, education and administrative settings must assist people who do not speak Spanish to overcome barriers caused by cultural and linguistic differences between users and themselves. The Health Service of Castilla-La Mancha developed an intercultural program in 2007 that included multilingual telephone interpreting, multilingual patient guides, intercultural mediation and professional training. Although several of these projects were discontinued in 2011 due to budget constraints, the professional training program has continued uninterrupted to the present.
