    En este ensayo se presenta y se contextualiza un texto periodístico en judeoespañol pertenenciente a la revista La Alvorada (Ruse, 1899) escrito por Y. A Basat. Dicho artículo, titulado «La mujer moderna», es un valioso testimonio de la discusión entorno al papel de la mujer que se desencadenó en el mundo sefardí a partir de finales del siglo XIX. La educación de la mujer y la promoción de sociedades femeninas de beneficencia constituyen, en esta ocasión, las cuestiones centrales del debate.

    In this essay a Judeospanish press report issued in the magazine La Alvorada (Ruse 1899) by Y. A Basat is presented and contextualized. The aforementioned report, headlined «The Modern Woman», is a reliable written witness of the discussions round the role played by women that broke out in the Sefardi world from the late 19th century. The women upbringing and the promotion of the welfare female societies as well became at the moment central questions in the social debate.
