El presente trabajo se centra en la historia del Museo Arqueológico de Sevilla, unainstitución de especial relevancia en el contexto de la museística española. Su trayectoria y formación,hoy gestionada por la Consejería de Cultura de la Junta de Andalucía, muestra la incidencia del contexto histórico regional en la personalidad actual y recorrido de uno de los principales museos arqueológicos de nuestro país. Su análisis histórico revela que quizás se trate del modelo andaluz que mejor representa el paso de los antiguos studioli o gabinetes humanistas del siglo XVIi hacia el museo público de finales del siglo XIX, y desde el anticuarismo a la consolidación de la ciencia arqueológica a mediados del siglo XX.

This paper focuses on the origin of Museo Arqueológico de Sevilla, institution with special significance on the context of the Spanish museums. The experience and training, today managed by the Junta de Andalucía, shows the incidence of the regional historical context in the current museum´s identity. The historical analysis reveals that this is, possibly, the best reference in Andalucía representing the change produced from the old Studioli or cabinets in the sixteenth century, to the public museum in the late nineteenth century. Also the Museum´s history shows the movement from the antiquarianism to the consolidation of archaeological science in the mid twentieth century.
