Resumen de El héroe byroniano visto por Castelar y Galdós

En esta contribución nos proponemos confrontar la visión sobre el héroe byroniano de dos autores: Emilio Castelar y Benito Pérez Galdós. Castelar publicó en 1873 su Vida de Lord Byron; Galdós, el episodio nacional Cádiz en 1874. En primer lugar ofreceremos los datos pertinentes acerca de las relaciones entre estos dos autores, a continuación presentaremos un análisis de la biografía del poeta inglés por Castelar y de su recepción y estudiaremos la presencia del héroe byroniano en Cádiz. Este análisis comparativo nos permitirá contestar a la pregunta de saber si se puede leer el episodio nacional como una réplica al libro de Castelar.

In this contribution we propose to compare the views of two authors on the Byronic hero: Emilio Castelar and Benito Pérez Galdós. In 1873, Castelar published his Life of Lord Byron, while Galdós published the ‘episodio nacional’ Cádiz in 1874. First, we offer pertinent data about the relationship between these two authors; next, we analyze the biography of the English poet by Castelar and its reception, and then, we study the presence of the Byronic hero in Cádiz. This comparative analysis will allow us to answer the question whether the ‘episodio nacional’ can be read as a reply to Castelar’s book.
