Su importancia histórica, su situación, su entorno natural y su gastronomía han hecho de Trujillo un importante centro turístico de Extremadura de primer orden. A lo largo del siglo XX, Trujillo terminará por conformarse como un gran centro comarcal de servicios y con una orientación claramente agraria y ganadera.
Entre los años 1927 y 2017 son muchos los acontecimientos que han tenido lugar en la ciudad: En 1929 se inauguraba oficialmente la estatua a Francisco Pizarro, conquistador del imperio inca, en plena Plaza Mayo; el 18 de octubre de 1953, el Nuncio de S.S. en España, ponía sobre las sienes de la imagen de la Virgen de la Victoria una bella corona de los talleres Granda con la asistencia de todo el pueblo; en 1956 se abría el sepulcro de Diego García de Paredes en la iglesia de Santa María la Mayor para examinar sus restos, etc...
