  • Resumen
    • PURPOSE: To assess the visual quality in pseudophakic patients after secondary implantation with a multifocal refractive lens (Sulcoflex®, Rayner) in the sulcus.

SETTING: Clinical setting Instituto de Oftalmología Avanzada, Madrid.

METHOD: Seven implanted intraocular lenses (IOLs) were assessed one month after surgery, when the patient was surgically discharged. Patient pre-operative refraction was 0.10 ± 1.21D. Objective Scatter Index (OSI), modulation transfer function (MTF), Strehl ratio, halos, aberrations and visual acuity (VA) were assessed and compared with the results obtained before the secondary implant. OPD Scan III aberrometer (Nidek Co.), Pentacam topography (Oculus Optikgeräte GmbH), Halo measurement v1.0 (University of Granada) and OQAS image analyzer (Visiometrics) were used to obtain these measurements.

RESULTS: Of the visual assessment parameters, only the intraocular light scatter was statistically significant (p = 0.0310). There was no statistically significant variation in either the MTF (p = 0.8476), Strehl Ratio (p = 0.6582), halos (p = 0.3706) or the higher order root-mean-square wavefront error (RMS) (p = 0.2422). All patients achieved near vision of J1 without compensation (100%).

CONCLUSION: Secondary implantation of a Sulcoflex® multifocal refractive lens did not cause any variation in the visual quality values of patients who underwent surgery, even though an OSI variation was observed.
