Resumen de Una imagen subyacente en el retrato de Jovellanos de Goya

  Este trabajo se ha centrado en el estudio de la radiografía del primer retrato que Goya hizo de Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos con motivo de su nombramiento en el Consejo de Órdenes en 1780.

  La aplicación de los rayos X a esta pintura ha permitido conocer detalladamente el estado de conservación en el que se encuentra el conjunto, así como la manera en la que el pintor creó el retrato.

  Sin embargo, la aportación más destacada de esta técnica en el presente caso ha consistido en el descubrimiento de la existencia de un retrato femenino totalmente terminado bajo el de Jovellanos, lo que condicionó el enfoque de esta investigación. Finalmente, se han estudiado las características técnicas de la pintura subyacente, así como las vestimentas de la retratada, comparándolas con la trayectoria artística de Goya, así como con la moda de la época. Todo ello con la intención de determinar la identidad de la mujer, así como la autoría de la composición, en la medida de lo posible.

  The task has been focused on the study of the radiography of the first portrait that Goya painted of Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos on occasion of his appointment to the Council of Military Orders in 1780.

  The application of x-ray to this picture has made it possible to achieve a detailed perception of both the state of preservation of the composition as well as the procedure the painter followed to paint the portrait.

  Nevertheless, the most outstanding contribution of the x-ray technique applied in this case has been the discovery of the presence of a complete female portrait below the one of Jovellanos and this fact has determined the approach to this research.

  Finally, the technical features of the underlaying painting have been looked into, together with the costume worn by the woman in the portrait. Both these things have been compared with Goya´s artistic career and with the fashion at the time. The aim of the whole research has been to determine the woman´s identity and the authorship of the composition as far as possible.
