Coa intención de encher un baleiro na historiografía da emigración galega, e tamén na referente ao fenómeno inmigratorio no Paraguai, esta contribución ofrece unha visión de conxunto da colonia española en xeral e a galega en particular dentro do territorio paraguaio no período de entreguerras (1870-1932). Tamén se examina o hábito asociativo español en Asunción e o importante peso que tiveron algúns inmigrantes galegos como promotores de asociacións españolas durante o período de estudio. A idea central do traballo é que o colectivo galego neste país tivo un impacto comercial e cultural cualitativamente desproporcionado respecto ao seu tamaño desde o punto de vista cuantitativo.

With the aim of filling a lacuna in the historiography of Galician emigration and also that of immigration in Paraguay, this article presents a global view of the Spanish and particularly the Galician collective in Paraguay during the "interwar period" (1870-1932). It also examines Spanish ethnic associations in Asunción and the important role played by certain Galician inmigrants in promoting them during the period in question. The central idea of this piece of research is that the Galician community in this country had, in qualitative terms, a disproportionate commercial and cultural impact in relation to its small size.
