  Background. The occupations of mothering have gained attention in occupation-based research and literature; however, many aspects of mothering remain unexplored. Purpose. The purpose of this study was to gain insight into mothers' perceptions of their occupations when mothering a child with feeding difficulties. Methods. Study design used mixed methodology utilizing the Parental Stress Scale (PSS), Life Satisfaction Index for Parents (LSI-P), and phenomenological interviews. Findings. Comparison of the datasets illuminated the quantitative findings with the words of the women interviewed. Although there was only one statistically significant finding in the quantitative data in terms of satisfaction with leisure and recreation, the qualitative data provided rich descriptions of mothers' perceptions of stress and life satisfaction. Implications. Mixed methods data analysis revealed the complex nature of the interaction between mothering occupations and mothering a child with feeding concerns as well as how these concerns might influence occupational therapy practice.

Les recherches et les écrits fondés sur l'occupation prennent de plus en plus en considération les occupations associées aux soins maternels; cependant, plusieurs aspects du maternage demeurent inexplorés. But. Cette étude tente de poser un nouveau regard sur la façon dont les mères perçoivent leur rôle lorsqu'elle prennent soin d'un enfant ayant des troubles de l'alimentation. Méthodologie. Le plan expérimental comportait différentes méthodes, notamment la Parental Stress Scale (PSS), la Life Satisfaction Index for Parents (LSI-P) et des entrevues phénoménologiques. Résultats. La comparaison des séries de données a permis de mettre en lumière des résultats quantitatifs à partir des mots exprimés par les femmes ayant participé aux entrevues. En ce qui concerne la satisfaction face aux loisirs et à la détente, même si un seul résultat statistiquement concluant a été obtenu à partir des données quantitatives, celles-ci renfermaient de riches descriptions quant à la façon dont les mères perçoivent leur stress et leur satisfaction face à la vie. Conséquences. L'analyse des données à partir des différentes méthodes utilisées a révélé la nature complexe du lien qui existe entre les occupations associées aux soins maternels et le fait de devoir prendre soin d'un enfant ayant des troubles de l'alimentation. L'analyse a également permis de voir comment ces difficultés peuvent influencer la pratique de l'ergothérapie.
