Resumen de Importancia de la rotación de imágenes para la comprensión de los “you-are-here maps”

  Los you-are-here maps son los mapas que se sitúan en el espacio que representan y son utilizados para conocer cómo es ese espacio y planificar desplazamientos por él. Como estos mapas suelen estar situados en paneles o soportes rígidos que no permiten su giro, es necesario proceder a realizar su rotación mentalmente. De estas investigaciones se puede concluir que el tiempo requerido para rotar mentalmente un mapa o imagen, y tomar decisiones de desplazamiento en mapas you-are-here, aumenta progresivamente a medida que aumentan los grados de rotación, hasta llegar a los 180º.

  You-are-here maps are maps that are located in the places they represent and are used to know how such places are and to plan displacements through them. This set of maps includes plans for visiting museums and exhibitions, fire evacuation plans, distribution of shopping centers and tourist maps allocated in the streets of cities. As these maps are usually placed on panels or rigid frames that do not allow their rotation, it is necessary performing their rotation mentally. This task of mental rotation of a map is very similar to the rotation of mental images. From these investigations, one can conclude that the time required to mentally rotate a map or image, and decide the direction to move based on a you-are-here map, increases progressively with the degrees of rotation up to 180 degrees.
