    Desde tiempo inmemorial, los árboles han sido centro de la vida política y jurídica vasca, sede del batzarre o asamblea vecinal, símbolo de la gente y el territorio. El patrimonio material e inmaterial que representaban aquellos árboles históricos desaparece sin que hayamos comprendido su valor y significado para nuestra historia y paisaje, nuestra identidad y cultura.

    Since time immemorial, trees have taken centre stage in Basque political and legal life, providing a meeting point for the batzarre or neighbourhood assembly and a symbol for the people and the land. The material and immaterial heritage represented by those historical trees is disappearing without us really understanding their value and what they have meant for our history and landscape, our identity and culture.
