    El desarrollo de la orientación profesional en Europa durante el primer cuarto del siglo XX tiene su correspondencia en la provincia de Santander con la ingente labor llevada a cabo por el maestro y periodista Jesús Revaque Garea, impulsor de la constitución del Instituto de Orientación Profesional de Santander, director de la Oficina-Laboratorio de Orientación y Selección Profesional creada tras la publicación del Estatuto de Formación Profesional de 1928 y divulgador desde el primer momento, a través de sus artículos en la prensa local y sus intervenciones en diferentes foros, de las ventajas para la mejora de la productividad y el bienestar de la clase obrera que conlleva la elección de la profesión u oficio en función de las aptitudes y la selección profesional. Este artículo, que será complementado por un estudio posterior de la labor divulgativa de Revaque, describe las diferentes etapas en la regulación integral de la formación profesional en España y describe el ambiente y circunstancias en que se originó la primera experiencia institucional dirigida a mejorar la orientación profesional de alumnos y aprendices en la ciudad de Santander.

    The development of career guidance in Europe during the first quarter of the 20th century finds its reciprocity in the province of Santander thanks to the enormous contribution of the teacher and journalist Jesus Revaque Garea, prime mover of the establishment of the Institute of Professional Guidance of Santander, head of the Office of Guidance and Professional Selection created after the publication of the 1928 Statute of Vocational Training and promoter from the first moment, through his articles in the local press and his interventions in different forums, of the advantages involved in the improvement of the productivity and well-being of the working class that s the choice of the profession or trade based on skills and professional selection implies. This paper, which will be complemented by a subsequent paper of the informative work of Revaque, describes both the different stages in the comprehensive regulation of vocational training in Spain and the atmosphere and circumstances in which the first institutional experience aimed at improving students and apprentices’ career guidance originated in the city of Santander.
