  • everal human papillomavirus type 16 (HPV16) oncoproteins contribute to cellular transformation in vitro. In this issue of Cell, Mirabello and colleagues use high-throughput sequencing data to assess the diversity of HPV16 isolates from human patients. These data suggest that the E7 oncoprotein is the fundamental contributor to in vivo carcinogenesis.
