    El presente artículo pretende contribuir al estudio del sistema de inteligencia de la embajada de la monarquía española en Roma durante el reinado de Felipe III. La red de inteligencia de los embajadores en Roma no constituía sino solo una rama de un complejo entramado de redes de inteligencia españolas activas en el Mediterráneo. Sin embargo, el análisis de la correspondencia y de los informes elaborados por los embajadores ante la Santa Sede permite aproximarse al funcionamiento de esta red, destacando el papel de los diplomáticos en la obtención y transmisión de la información e identificando a sus principales confidentes. Se tratará de determinar cómo estos últimos entraban al servicio de la monarquía y qué tipo de información transmitían.

    This work contributes to the study of the intelligence system of the Spanish Embassy in Rome during the reign of Philip III of Spain. The ambassadors’ intelligence network in Rome was only the branch of a complex Spanish intelligence network, which was active in the Mediterranean Sea. However, the analysis of the letters written and reports carried out by the ambassadors to the Holy See makes it possible to approach the functioning of this network. It also highlights the role of diplomats in obtaining and transmitting information and identifying their main confidants. Its aim is to determine how the latter influenced the monarchy and what kind of information confidants would communicate.
