  El presente trabajo está dedicado al examen del principio de igualdad de trato y del principio de igualdad de oportunidades entre hombres y mujeres en el ámbito laboral. Parte de que la igualdad efectiva en el empleo no constituye una realidad en ningún Estado miembro de la Unión Europea a pesar de que la Unión Europea tiene normas al respecto que datan del momento de su creación que han experimentado un desarrollo significativo a lo largo de los años. El artículo analiza el porqué de esta situación a través del estudio del derecho originario y del derecho derivado aplicable y propone vías de solución para este problema.

  This article examines the European Union (EU) Law on the principle of equality of treatment and the principle of equal opportunities between men and women at work. It departs from the fact that full equality at the workplace does not exist within any of the Member States of the European Union despite the existence of an important set of European norms on equality. The study explores the reasons for this by analysing the EU law on equality between men and women. It shows that the legal framework provided by the Treaties on the European Union, the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union and the secondary law of the EU are insufficient to attain full equality. Then, the article identifies possible ways to advance in a decisive manner in this field.
