Don Quixote de la Mancha is an historical chant to freedom, an apology of equality and human dignity. Cervantes, son of modernity, used the figure of the errant knight to defend a conception of the world radically different from the common at that time. His non-conformity and vital optimism allows him to think that despite all the adversities and misfortunes suffered, justice is possible. Hence his sharp criticism of the organization of political power and the structure of the statist society, denouncing its privileges satirically.
