Relaciones peligrosas: De Virginia Woolf a Dorothy Schons y Sor Juana

    Luiselli relaciona, mediante el tema del suicidio, las muertes de Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, Virginia Wolf y Dorothy Schons. Las recientes escenificaciones de los dramaturgos mexicanos María Luisa Medina y Guillermo Schmidhuber, quienes en sus respectivas obras retoman a la monja virreinal como personaje protagónico, son el punto de partida de este ensayo. Luiselli analiza la muerte voluntaria de Virginia Wolf, tema recreado en la escenificación de Medina, y establece un paralelo con el suicidio de la investigadora estadounidense Dorothy Schons, tema que Schmidhuber presenta en la suya. Luiselli concluye que ambos dramaturgos reterritorializan la vida de Sor Juana, mediante el artificio escénico de hacerla convivir con personajes extemporáneos, con la intención de acusar prácticas hegemónicas de carácter sexual e intelectual propias de nuestro tiempo.

    Trough the topic of suicide, Luiselli establishes important parallels between the deaths of Sor Juana, Virginia Wolf, and Dorothy Schons. Two recent plays by Mexican writers María Luisa Medina and Guillermo Schmidhuber which recreate Sor Juana’s life in their works, are the point of departure of this essay. Luiselli analyses the voluntary death of Virginia Wolf, subject of Medina’s play, in order to trace a parallel with the suicide of Dorthy Schons, theme that Schmidhuber carefully presents in his work. The critic concludes that both playwrightists reterritorialize Sor Juana’ s life, through the dramatic artifice of making her alternate with extemporaneous characters, in order to accuse current hegemonic practices of sexual and intellectual nature.
