The chapter of Polifemus cyclop on the Oddisey (canto IX) is analyzed and put in relation with some popular Basque tales. There are unquestionable coincidences, which also remain on the testimony given by one of Villa Casale mosaics in Piazza Armerina (Sicily). The topic is always the same: the intelligence of the hero, and the clumsiness of the giant.
