If we would have to say a feature to define the thought of Ortega, this one would be his radical consideration for all that relative to man and his reality. So, silence, as an essential phenomenon in the human being, does not escape to his regard. In this way, in many of his pages we see a deep perception about the presence and importance of silence as a sociocultural, and above all, linguistic behaviour. Because silence is inherent in language and also in the speech acts. So the main point of this paper is to examine the hermeneutics of silence in Ortega, and to think on the modernity of his analysis related to it.
