As young learners engage in authentic STEM activities, they gain a better understanding of the complexity and adventure of scientific and mathematical inquiry and realize that a given problem may have more than one simple solution. Therefore, at K-grade 8 levels, STEM activities should emphasize the process not the solution. Here, Chesky and Wells discuss the use of 3D-printing technology that allows children to be the "makers" of their own creative designs and seek different solutions to problems.
