  • Resumen
    • This led to a climb down by APMDC, which agreed to reduce ex-mine prices for specific gravity (SG) SG 4.2 material to Indian rupee (INR) 6,050/tonne ($95/tonne*) from a previous level of INR 6,760/tonne ($106/tonne), while SG 4.1 prices were cut to INR 4,775/tonne ($75/tonne) from INR 5,360/tonne ($84/tonne).

The joint venture (JV) aims to improve the quality of some of the 5m tonnes barite lying unused in Kadapa's mines, which cannot be employed for oilfield well drilling because of its low grade. Between 500,000-700,000 tonnes barite could be purified by the JV, some of which would be consumed by ONGC with the rest being offered for export by APMDC.

Miners and exporters of barite in India are still said to be unhappy with the prices set by APMDC for selling barite on the international market, claiming that the current levels make Indian barite uncompetitive against Chinese material.
