La estructura discursiva del exemplum como herramienta evangelizadora en la Paraquaria

    La región de la Paraquariacontó con la activa participación de los religiosos de la Compañíade Jesús para la empresa evangelizadora.  El padre Antonio Ruíz de Montoya (quien llegará a ser Superior de las reducciones del Guayrá) da testimonio de la ardua tarea de la conversión en su libro “Conquista Espiritual del Paraguay”. En él plasma mediante la voz del testigo el relato de la construcción de las reducciones y de la lucha contra los poderes virreinales y de los vecinos españoles y portugueses. En la narración de la conversión Montoya se vale de diversas estrategias discursivas, entre las cuales se destaca el uso del exemplum como figura retórica. Así, siguiendo el esquema sermonario, el jesuita estructura  gran parte de su obra como un texto didáctico de importante vínculo con la tradición medieval.

    Paraquaria region had the active participation of the religious of the Society of Jesus for the evangelizing enterprise. Father Antonio Ruiz de Montoya testifies to the hard work of conversion in his book Spiritual Conquest of Paraguay. It materializes through an experiential and informative tone, the story of the construction of the reductions and the fight against the colonial powers and the Spanish and Portuguese neighbors. Montoya used the Cartas Anuas’ narrative discursive mode along with other formats such as the story of pilgrims, hagiography and also highlights the use of the exemplum as rhetorical figure. Thus, following the scheme of sermons, the Jesuit structures much of his work as a teaching text, an important link with the medieval tradition.
