El nacionalismo, especialmente en sus formas más radicales, constituye uno de los factores de desequilibrio de la vida europea a lo largo del siglo XX. Desde 1929, Ortega lo relacionó con el fenómeno cultural de la irrupción histórica del hombre-masa y con la necesidad de superar el marco de convivencia de la Nación-estado. Dicha superación fue pensada por Ortega como creación de un Estado transnacional: Europa. El artículo termina con un anexo en el que se examinan algunas ideas de I. Berlin sobre nacionalismo.
Nationalism, specially in his forms more radical, is one of the factor to unbalance the European life during the XXth Century. From 1929, Ortega related it with the cultural phenomenon of the historic irruption of the mass-man and the necessity of overcoming the mode of living coexistence of the national State.
