Las misiones jesuitas de Mojos y Chiquitos, en el actual oriente de Bolivia, tuvieron un desarrollo material y artístico diferente, siendo mucho más destacado en las misiones de Mojos, pertenecientes a la rica provincia jesuita del Perú. Sus iglesias fueron más grandes y mejor dotadas que las de Chiquitos, pertenecientes a la provincia del Paraguay. Ello fue debido a la combinación de muchos factores, pero entre ellos hay que destacar, junto a la presencia de artistas y arquitectos propios y foráneos, el decisivo papel que el mayor desarrollo económico y la mejor capacidad de captación de benefactores jugó a favor del arte y la arquitectura de Mojos respecto a Chiquitos.

The Jesuit missions of Mojos and Chiquitos, today in the East of Bolivia, had different artistic and material developments. The missions of Mojos was the most important, which belonged to the rich Jesuit Province of Peru. Their churches were bigger and better equipped than those of Chiquitos, which belonged to the Jesuit Province of Paraguay. This was due to the combination of a lot of factors, but between them it´s necessary to highlight, apart from the presence of local and foreign artists and architects, the decisive role that the greater economic development and capacity to attract benefactors played for the art and the architecture in the churches of Mojos compared to Chiquitos.
