Resumen de El potasio en los suelos volcánicos del altiplano de Pasto, Nariño

  Los suelos volcánicos utilizados en la presente investigación se obtuvieron en el Altiplano de Pasto (Nariño, SO Colombia), en las faldas del Volcán Galeras. El Altiplano está situado entre 2500 y 2800 m.s.n.m. con una temperatura y precipitación promedia de 13°C y 700 mm/año, respectivamente. El promedio de potasio total fue menor del 1% del contenido total teórico del suelo. El K-estructural y el total no intercambiable representaron el 80, - 88 y 8 - 12% del K-total respectivamente. El K-intercambiable estuvo entre 3 y 8,5% del K-total. Esta cantidad, en promedio, es la más alta encontrada en suelos colombianos. Por el momento no aparece necesaria la fertilización potásica en los suelos del Altiplano, siendo favorables en otros factores.

  The volcanic soils used in this investigation were obtained from the Highland of Pasto (Nariño, SW Colombia), in the proximity Of the Galeras Volcano. The Highland lies at about 7500-8400 feet (2500-200 m.) above sea level. Mean average temperature and mean average rainfalls are 55°F (13°C) and 28 in. (700 mm) par year, respectively.In average total potassium was less than 1% of the theoretical soil content. Structural and non-exchangeable-K represented 80-88% and 8-12% of total-K, respectively. Exchangeable-K varied from 3,0 to 8,5% of total-K. This amount, in average, is the highest found, up to date, in Colombian soils. It seems that, at the moment, it might not be necessary to apply potassium fertilizers in the Highland, other soil factors being equally favorable.
