Introducción: el sistema de atención dental, PADI, de concertación con la red asistencial privada y pago por capitación, es aplicado hoy en día por ocho comunidades autónomas en España: Andalucía, Aragón, Baleares, Canarias, Extremadura, Murcia, Navarra y País Vasco.
Objetivo: analizar el estado actual del sistema en cada comunidad autónoma y ofrecer un análisis DAFO.
Material y métodos: cada comunidad autónoma respondió a un cuestionario estructurado de preguntas sobre datos cuantitativos relativos al ejercicio del año 2014, y cualitativos para un análisis DAFO.
Resultados: todas la comunidades autónomas respondieron al cuestionario y sus resultados preliminares se presentaron el XXI Congreso de SESPO (Madrid, 2015). El sistema PADI cubre al 39 % de la población española de 6 a 15 años. En 2014 fueron atendidos 671.624 niños y adolescentes de los que el 19 % acudieron a un dentista público y el 81 % restante a uno privado concertado. La tasa de utilización anual varía entre el 26,2 % de Canarias y el 69 % de Navarra. En todas las comunidades, la red predominante es la concertada. El sistema no es homogéneo y presenta diferencias de una comunidad a otra. Entre las carencias más importantes se pueden destacar: la falta de una Unidad Específica de Gestión dirigida por un odontólogo/estomatólogo y una tasa de utilización media todavía baja en el conjunto del país.

Introduction: the dental care system, PADI, in coordination with the network of private providers paid under capitation, is in force across eight autonomous communities of Spain: Andalucía, Aragón, Baleares, Canarias, Extremadura, Murcia, Navarra and País Vasco.
Aim: analyze the current state of the system in each autonomous community and offer a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analysis of PADI.
Materials and methods: each autonomous community answered a structured survey questionnaire consisting of questions exploring quantitative figures related to the program in the year 2014, and qualitative information to drive the SWOT analysis.
Results: each autonomous community responded to the questionnaire and the preliminary results were presented at the 21st Congreso SESPO (Madrid, 2015). The PADI system covers 39 % of the spanish population between 6 and 15 years of age. In 2014, 671,624 children and young adults were seen, of which 19 % were seen by a publicly-employed dentist, and the remaining 81 % by a coordinating private provider. The annual usage rate varies between 26.2 % in Canarias, and 69% in Navarra. In each communities, the PADI network is dominated by private providers. The system is not homogeneous and significant differences are apparent between one community and the next. Between all the reported shortcomings, one notes specifically: the lack of a specific management body directed by a dentist in some autonomous communities, and a low average usage rate across the country.
