Tillich fue más allá de Lutero al extender la justificación por la fe del que peca al que duda. Junto a este ‘novum’ soteriológico, el otro gran soporte de su sistema teológico (además del método de la correlación) es la metáfora de la ‘frontera’. Y quizás el eslogan que recorre toda su experiencia existencial de Dios sea la invitación a ‘trascender’: trascender toda alienación, las obras de la moral y del pensamiento, la misma presencia espiritual, la oración, la mística… A Dios no lo poseemos, solo lo esperamos.

Paul Tillich went beyond Luther by extending justification by faith not only to the sinner, but to the doubtful. In addition to this soteriological “novum”, the other pillar of Tillich’s theological system (in addition to the method of correlation), is the metaphor of the “boundary”. One could say that the theme which runs throughout his entire existential experience of God is the invitation to “transcend” -all alienation, all moral and intellectual works, spiritual presence itself, prayer, mysticism….We do not possess God, we only await Him.
