    Trata-se de uma reflexão teórica sobre a trajetória histórica do cinema e o esforço para que fosse aceito como arte. A abordagem da temática foi promovida pelo Curso de Cinedebate em Gerontologia durante a programação do Encontro Comemorativo 30 Anos NETI, realizado nos dias 20 e 21 de agosto de 2012 no Centro de Cultura e Eventos da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina. Apresentam-se o início do cinema com os irmãos Lumière e a contribuição de Méliès. O cinema americano cria a indústria do cinema e a contribuição do legado soviético principalmente na montagem dos filmes. Conhecer a História do Cinema é fundamental para a utilização dos filmes como tecnologia educativa, relembrando que o cinema, além de arte e divertimento, é indústria e comércio.

    This is a theoretical thinking exercise on cinema’s historical path and effort to be accepted as art.

    The thematic approach was promoted by the Course of Cinedebate in Gerontology during the programme of the Commemorative Meeting of 30 Years of NETI, held on 20 and 21 of August 2012, at the Center of Culture and Events of the Federal University of Santa Catarina. The beginning of cinema is presented with the contribution of the Lumière brothers and Méliès. The American cinema creates this industry along with the Soviet legacy, mainly, in the editing of the films. Knowing the History of Cinema is essential for the use of movies as an educational technology, bearing in mind that not only is cinema art and fun, but also industry and commerce.
