    La psicoterapia es uno de los productos más emblemáticos del desarrollo científico del siglo XX. Tomó forma a principios de 1900 en Europa Central en la obra de Freud y se extendió en sus primeros tiempos dentro del continente europeo y en los Estados Unidos. Fue, por lo tanto, un producto nítidamente occidental que logró expandirse, a lo largo del siglo pasado, de manera universal.

    En América Latina encontró un terreno fértil casi desde sus inicios. La cultura de la sociedad latinoamericana (especialmente en las zonas urbanas) absorbió con rapidez esta disciplina en sus diversas expresiones. Tanto las diferentes concepciones teóricas como los múltiples dispositivos y formatos técnicos, están muy bien representados a lo largo del continente.

    Psychotherapy is one of the most emblematic products of the twentieth century's scientific development.

    It took shape in early 1900 in Central Europe in the work of Freud and extended in its early stages within the European continent and the United States. It was, therefore, a distinctly Western product that managed to expand universally throughout the last century. In Latin America, it found fertile ground almost from its beginnings. The culture of Latin American society (especially in urban areas) quickly absorbed this discipline in its various expressions. Both the different theoretical conceptions and the multiple devices and technical formats are very well represented throughout the continent.
