    Durante los meses de marzo y abril de 1937 el Musée du Jeu de Paume de París acogió la exposición más importante que nunca se haya hecho en el extranjero del legado artístico de Cataluña: L’Art Catalan. Du Xe siècle au XVe siècle. Que en plena Guerra Civil los gobiernos catalán, francés y en menor medida el español negociaran arduamente para poder trasladar a la capital francesa una selección de obras de arte con la finalidad de alejarlas de los peligros de la guerra y poder probar, al mismo tiempo, que el patrimonio artístico de Cataluña estaba a salvo hace difícilmente explicable, por sí solo, el alcance de tales negociaciones. En realidad, como este artículo trata de demostrar, el objetivo de la exposición fue mucho más complejo; desde el primer momento se concibió como un artefacto ideológico que la convirtió en un instrumento más de la Guerra Civil española.

    The Musée du Jeu de Paume in Paris hosted during March and April of 1937 the most important exhibition on the artistic heritage of Catalonia ever shown abroad: L’Art Catalan. Duxe siècle au XVe siècle. In the middle of the Civil War the Catalan, the French and, to a lesser extent, the Spanish governments had negotiated arduously in order to transfer a selection of the works to the French capital removing them from the dangers of this conflict. But saving the artistic heritage of Catalonia can hardly explain alone why the enormous amount of negotiations and the efforts involved in the organisation of this event. This article wants to show that the aim of the exhibition was much more complex. Actually, the event was conceived from the beginning as and ideological tool and as such it can be interpreted as a further propaganda instrument in the struggle of the Spanish Civil War.
