Construcción de género y estereotipos: Un estudio de las actitudes hacia la diversidad de género

    Las sociedades patriarcales han usado la categoría sexo/género como medio para la creación de un sistema binario y segregado en el que el hombre ejerce un papel dominante y la mujer es sometida a él. Las desigualdades derivadas de este sistema se ven perpetuadas por la existencia de estereotipos, los cuales alimentan estas desigualdades y limitan el desarrollo de la personalidad. La masculinidad hegemónica instaura un sistema heteronormativo en el que, si bien las mujeres se han visto continuamente sometidas y menospreciadas, las personas con otras identidades de género y orientaciones afectivo-sexuales se ven, aún hoy, perjudicadas e invisivilizadas. Estas personas son las pertenecientes a los colectivos que forman la comunidad LGBT (lesbianas, gays, bisexuales y personas transgénero), quienes continuamente son víctimas de estereotipos homofóbicos, transfóbicos y sexistas profundamente arraigados en la sociedad. Este trabajo busca, precisamente, poner de manifiesto estos estereotipos y sus causas para, después, formular algunas propuestas educativas que contribuyan a acercar la realidad de la comunidad LGBT a la sociedad que la desconoce. En este sentido, se lleva a cabo un estudio –a través de entrevistas y, posteriormente, de cuestionarios– de los conocimientos y las actitudes hacia la diversidad de género que presenta una muestra de sujetos. A partir de las conclusiones de dicho estudio, se proponen unas líneas de actuación –desde la educación formal y no formal– que inciden en la necesidad de actuar para concienciar a los jóvenes sobre la igualdad de género, entendida ésta no solo cómo el reconocimiento de derechos y el mutuo respeto tanto a hombres como a mujeres, sino también la aceptación de otras posibles identidades de género y orientaciones sexuales.

    Patriarchal societies have used the sex/gender category as a means for creating a binary and separated system in which men have a dominant role and women are subdued to them. Inequalities derived from this system are perpetuated by the existence of stereotypes, which feed these inequalities and restrict the development of the personality. Hegemonic masculinity establishes a heteronormative system in which, although women have continuously been subdued and despised, those people with other gender identities and affective-sexual orientations are, even today, truly harmed and made invisible. These people are those belonging to the groups that make up the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community who are constantly victims of homophobic, transphobic and sexist stereotypes deeply rooted in society. This paper deals with highlight these stereotypes and their causes, trying to formulate some educational proposals to help to bring the reality of the LGBT community to the society. In this sense, a study –through interviews and questionnaires– of both the knowledge and attitudes toward gender diversity presents in a sample of people was carried out. From the conclusions of this study, lines of action are proposed –from the formal and non-formal education– which highlight the need to act to raise awareness among young people about the gender equality, not only understanding it as the recognition of rights and mutual respect to both men and women, but also the acceptance of people with alternative gender identities and sexual orientations.
