Resumen de Judíos y paganos en el Helenismo: historia de una polémica

La presencia de un importante grupo de judíos en la diáspora helenística conllevó una redefinición de su patrimonio cultural. En este artículo hacemos una breve presentación de las distintas visiones que tuvieron judíos y paganos del “otro cultural”. Nos ha interesado la reinterpretación judía de su pasado, el tratamiento que hicieron de los héroes y padres fundadores de la religión hebrea y el conjunto de iniciativas que tomaron con una finalidad bien precisa: mejorar su competencia social y ser reconocidos como comunidad cultural en igualdad con otras.

The presence of an important group of Jews in the Hellenistic diaspora conveyed a redefinition of their cultural heritage. This article aims at briefly depicting the different visions both Jews and Pagans had from each other’s cultural self. It focuses on the Jewish review of their past, the way they treated their heroes and founding fathers of the Hebrew religion and all the initiatives they took for a definite purpose: to improve their social competence and be recognized as a cultural community equal to others.
