  • Resumen
    • The aim of the study is to increase the knowledge of one of the most important and complex structure of the defensive system of the Modern Age of the Salento Coast. Gallipoli is located along the Ionian coast of Apulia; the old town, surrounded by defensive walls, presents the city fortress on the eastern boundary. Questions on its historic foundation, the lack of documentation archives, and architectural development are still numerous. Starting from a first bibliographic research, the investigation focuses on the eastern portion of the building and in particular on the lower level of the Tower Polygonal (SE), the Tower of the Flag (NE), and the connecting corridor built in the eastern curtain core, with the realization of a perspective section that has allowed to come to some concrete observations for research. The ultimate goal of the project is to integrate with the new data from the study of the Castle of Gallipoli understanding the relations to the Salento fortifications.
