"Politique" y "savant": Jean Bodin frente al desafío de la tolerancia

    ¿Qué actitud asumió Jean Bodin frente al conflicto confesional que asoló a Francia durante el siglo XVI? ¿Qué respuestas ofreció al desafío de la tolerancia? He ahí los interrogantes que guían nuestra indagación. Según nuestra tesis, en efecto, las respuestas de Bodin parecen haberse postulado principalmente en dos planos: el político y el filosófico. En el primero, el angevino habría intentado ofrecer mejores fundamentos jurídicos a la posición de los politiques, grupo de intelectuales que buscaba terciar entre hugonotes y católicos; en el segundo, habría propiciado el diálogo de los savants, únicos hombres capaces de deponer las pasiones a la hora de discutir sus diferencias religiosas. A través del análisis de dos importantes escritos del autor, Les six livres de la République (1576) y el Colloque entre sept savants (c.1593), buscaremos dar sustento a nuestra hipótesis de lectura.

    What attitude did take Jean Bodin in the face of the confessional conflict that ravaged France during the sixteenth century? What answers did he offer to the challenge of tolerance? These are the questions that guide our inquiry. According to our thesis, in fact, Bodin’s answers seem to have been postulated mainly on two planes: the political and the philosophical. In the first, the Angevin would have tried to offer better juridical foundations to the position of the politiques, group of intellectuals who looked for intercede between Huguenots and Catholics; in the second, it would have propitiated the dialogue of savants, the only men capable of deposing the passions when discussing their religious differences. Through the analysis of two important writings of the author, Les six livres de la République (1576) and the Colloque entre sept savants (c.1593), we will seek to support our reading hypothesis.
