Resumen de Interventional Cardiology: What’s New?

Brian A Scansen

  • The breadth of small animal cardiovascular diseases that can now be treated by a transcatheter approach continues to expand; it is hoped that further refinement of this subspecialty will occur within veterinary medicine as has happened on the human side.

Advancements in fluoroscopic equipment, real-time 3-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography, rotational angiography, and fusion imaging may transform the complexity of procedures that can be treated in a minimally invasive fashion.

Cutting and high-pressure balloons offer novel treatment options for obstructive lesions in the heart and great vessels.

Intracardiac stent implantation can offer palliation for both congenital and acquired cardiac conditions and both balloon-expandable and self-expanding stents can be used for these purposes
