  • Resumen
    • Any horse that develops corneal edema, focal or diffuse, or that has a history of uveitis should be tested for glaucoma.

Overall, the prognosis for vision in horses with glaucoma is poor. Lowering the IOP can improve vision in horses in the short term by clearing corneal edema and improving retinal and optic nerve vascular perfusion.

Cyclophotocoagulation combined with medical therapy is the best current therapeutic option for maintaining vision long term.

The limitations in controlling IOP in the horse, together with the concept that lowering IOP is not enough to prevent/slow down glaucomatous damage, highlights the importance of combining hypotensive treatment with new pharmacologic approaches aimed at increasing outflow and neuroprotection.
