    Las colecciones fotográficas constituidas en el transcurso de las misiones etnográficas son de un gran interés para la historia de la disciplina y las investigaciones epistemológicas. Ellas se prestan igualmente a nuevas investigaciones y análisis, bajo la perspectiva de diferentes disciplinas. Las fotografías etnográficas juegan, en algunos casos, el rol de “transmisoras de la tradición” para los investigadores que revisitan terrenos ya estudiados en el pasado, pero también para las sociedades a las que ellas se refieren.

    Queda mucho trabajo por hacer para la salvaguarda y puesta en valor de las colecciones públicas y privadas todavía inexplotadas tanto en occidente como en los países del sur.

    Photographic collections created in relation to ethnographic missions are of high importance for the history of Anthropology as well as for epistemological studies. These collections can also be studied from other perspectives. At times, ethnographic photographs also play the role “traditions transmitter” not only for those societies that they show, but also for those researchers that revisit topics already dealt with in the past.

    There is a lot of work to do in relation to the conservation and diffusion of these collections in the West and the southern hemisphere countries.
