    El artículo propone una aproximación a las colecciones fotográficas del Museo del Quai Branly de París, analizando tres momentos diferentes de su historia que esclarecen las formas en que se han comprendido y considerado estas fotografías. Para ello resulta primordial conocer las circunstancias de aparición de las imágenes, pero también las condiciones de su existencia posterior. Es decir, la historia de la fotografía debe interesarse por la creación de las fotografías, pero también por las condiciones de recepción y su vida social posterior en el seno de un archivo etnográfico.

    This paper aims a close look into the photographic collections of the Musée du Quai Branly in Paris. The idea is to analyze three different moments of the history of these photographic collections to clarify the way photographs have being understood and considered. To carry on such analysis is essential first to understand in which circumstances the photograph appeared, and, second, to follow the conditions of their existence within the collection. Thus, the history of the photographs should be interested in its creation of the photograph, but also in the conditions that surround its life within the archive that keeps it.
