Resumen de The Queer Collapse of Civilization: Mariko Ōhara's "Shōjo"

  Este artículo analiza el relato breve de Mariko Ōhara “Shōjo” (1985) y cómo el relato trata de deconstruir el sistema de sexo-género. Nos centramos en el análisis de los tres personajes principales:

  Gil y sus dos intereses sexuales/amorosos, Remora y Kisa. A través del análisis del relato tanto desde una perspectiva de género como de los “estudios animales”, el objetivo es reflexionar acerca de las ideas sobre sexo, género y performatividad insertas en una construcción social mayor en la que el género se entremezcla con nociones de clase y animalidad. Consideraremos también de qué modo la recurrente idea de decadencia y lo que puede considerarse como un posible retorno a la heteronormatividad no llega a debilitar el proceso general de deconstrucción y crítica social que la obra ofrece.

  This article analyses Mariko Ōhara’s short story “Shōjo” (1985) and its attempt at deconstructing the sex-gender system, focusing on the three main characters: Gil and his two sexual/love interests, Kisa and Remora. By examining the story from both gender and animal studies, the aim is to reflect on how the ideas of sex, gender and performativity are inserted into a vaster social construction that also merges with class and animality. We also consider how the recurrent image of decadence and what can be considered a return to a heteronormative situation do not undermine the overall process of deconstruction and social critique offered by the story
