Record of Brown-Banded Cusk-eel Sirembo jerdoni (day, 1888) (Ophidiiformes: Ophidiidae) from Gulf of Mannar, India

  • A specimen of Sirembo jerdoni (Day, 1888) was collected from off Tuticorin coast, Gulf of Mannar southeast coast of India during January 2013. The morphometric, meristic characters and color patterns of the recorded specimen was compared with the morphological variation known from other species of Sirembo known to occur in the Indo Pacific Ocean. The diagnostic characters based on body stripes, this is the second record of the species from the Indian region of Bay of Bengal after 1963 and the first record from Gulf of Mannar.
