    The usage of documents regarding the most diversified ends presents itself as an indelible mark of societies, especially where the limitations of the human memory were overcome by such practice. In fact, within the growing complexity of societies, the usage of documents to register agreements has become a necessity to surpass memory deficient. In that context, the document act theory was developed to fundament the role of documents in societies, becoming therefore a matter of interest in different areas, especially around the subject of ontologies. Under that perspective, the present article comes forth with a literature review about the theoretical and philosophical approach of document act theory, considering that the field’s literature is yet lacking works that approaches the subject under such point of view. The theoretical-philosophical nature of the present article refers to the speech act and collective intentionality theories developed by Searle, and to documentality theory, with Ferraris as the main reference. Approaching this theme in Information Science is important, once the correlative document studies are important to the area.

    O uso de documentos para os mais diversos fins apresenta-se como uma marca indelével da sociedade, em especial onde as limitações da memória humana foram sendo superadas com essa prática. De fato, com a crescente complexidade da sociedade, o uso de documentos para registrar acordos tornou-se uma necessidade para superar deficiências da memória. Nesse contexto, a teoria dos Atos dos Documentos foi desenvolvida para fundamentar o papel dos documentos na sociedade, tornando assunto de interesse, em especial no âmbito das ontologias. Sob essa perspectiva, o presente artigo teve o objetivo de apresentar os fundamentos teórico e filosófico da Teoria dos Atos dos Documentos. A natureza teórico-filosófica a que se refere o presente artigo, diz respeito às teorias dos Atos de Fala e da Intencionalidade Coletiva, desenvolvidas por Searle e da Documentalidade, cuja principal referência é atribuída a Ferraris. Esse tema é parte da pesquisa em andamento no âmbito da Ciência da Informação, cujos os estudos correlatos ao documento são de conhecida importância para a área.
