Resumen de Caracterización de retinopatía diabética en el adulto mayor

  Se realiza un estudio en pacientes diabéticos del Hospital General Docente “Dr. Agostinho Neto”, con el objetivo de determinar el comportamiento de la retinopatía diabética en los adultos mayores atendidos en el Centro Oftalmológico de dicho hospital, en el período comprendido julio – diciembre de 2012. El universo estuvo conformado por 138 pacientes con diagnóstico de diabetes mellitus para lo cual se escogió una muestra de 100  pacientes y su relación con sexo, raza, edad, tipo clínico de diabetes, tratamiento recibido, años de evolución y control metabólico. Se comprobó la presencia de retinopatía en el 26 % de los pacientes. El mal control metabólico y los años de evolución fueron las variables que guardaron mayor asociación con la presencia de esta complicación. Los diabéticos tipo I y los tratados con insulina fueron los más afectados.

  A study was carried out in diabetic patients of the General Teaching Hospital "Dr. Agostinho Neto ", with the aim of determining the behavior of diabetic retinopathy in the elderly attended at the Ophthalmological Center of this hospital, from July to December 2012. The universe consisted of 138 patients with a diagnosis of diabetes mellitus with a sample of 100 patients that was chosen and their relation to sex, race, age, clinical type of diabetes, treatment received, years of evolution and metabolic control were chosen. The presence of retinopathy was verified in 26% of the patients. Poor metabolic control and years of evolution were the variables that were most associated with the presence of this complication. Type I diabetics and those treated with insulin were the most affected.
