La bibliothèque de Geoffroy de Vendôme (1093-1132)

    The publishing of Geoffroy's correspondence having highlighted the richness of his culture as well as the importance of the biblical, patristical and canonical sources he used, it seems interesting to try and reconstruct the contents of his library, which the remaining manuscripts as well as the others works that can be reconstituted from his letters and sermons have enabled. The library in La Trinité, constituted by his predecessor Oderic (18 manuscripts), was extended by Geoffroy thanks to copies written in scriptorium (36 manuscripts), and by his successor (35 manuscripts). The texts now in that library are those known by clerks of that time ; links between those works and the use made by Geoffroy, although numerous, are not systematic ; evidence of careful reading of those manuscripts does exist through the marginal notes but whether they were written by or for Geoffroy remains uncertain. But at least we have been given the chance of discovering a xuth century library in another way, not just through a mère catalogue.     L'édition de la correspondance de Geoffroy ayant mis en valeur sa culture et l'importance des sources bibliques, patristiques et canoniques, il est intéressant d'essayer de reconstituer sa bibliothèque, démarche rendue possible par le nombre de manuscrits encore existants (Bibl. mun. Vendôme, Paris BN, Bibl. Vat.), auxquels il faut joindre les œuvres que l'on peut rétablir grâce aux sources de ses lettres et sermons. La bibliothèque de la Trinité, constituée par son prédécesseur Oderic (18 manuscrits), est enrichie par Geoffroy, grâce à des copies essentiellement effectuées au scriptorium (36 manuscrits) et poursuivie par son successeur (35 manuscrits). Les textes présents sont ceux que connaissent les clercs de cette époque ; les correspondances entre ces œuvres et l'utilisation que Geoffroy en a faite, assez nombreuses, ne sont pas systématiques ; les preuves de lecture attentive de ces manuscrits existent, avec la présence de nota, sans qu'on puisse avec certitude les rattacher à Geoffroy. On a néanmoins la chance de connaître ainsi une bibliothèque du xne s. autrement que par un catalogue. Annexes : édition du bref inventaire de 1119, liste des manuscrits copiés au temps de Geoffroy, liste des œuvres ou fragments encore existants.
