Resumen de Iris-claw intraocular lens for treatment of late in-the-bag IOL dislocations associated with pseudoexfoliation syndrome

• PURPOSE: To present iris-claw intraocular lens (IOL) treatment for late in-the-bag intraocular lens (IOL) dislocations associated with pseudoexfoliation syndrome.

  SETTING: Department of Ophthalmology, Arnau de Vilanova University Hospital, Lleida, Spain.

  METHODS: Three cases of late in-the-bag IOL dislocation with pseudoexfoliation syndrome were studied. Treatment included exchange of the dislocated IOL-bag complex, with implantation of an Artisan iris-claw IOL for aphakia during the same procedure. The Artisan IOL power was calculated using IOL Master and SRK-T formulae.

  RESULTS: Exchange of the luxated IOL-bag complex was uneventful. Two of the three cases presented with vitreous loss, which required anterior vitrectomy. In both cases, attachment of the iris claw was more difficult, due to hypotony. Visual acuity improved in all three cases.

  No serious complications, such as uveitis, hyphema, or glaucoma, were observed.

  CONCLUSIONS: Lens exchange in late in-the-bag IOL dislocations due to pseudoexfoliation syndrome, with simultaneous implantation of an iris-claw IOL, is a safe, predictable treatment with minimal complications.
