Este artículo trata sobre el viaje de Ibn Fadlan, conocido como Kitab ilà Malik al-Saqaliba (s. X) para identificar, describir y analizar los elementos escatológicos que aparecen en la misma. Para llevar a cabo esta tarea, analizaremos diferentes elementos escatológicos: a) la visión redentora del viaje a partir de los miedos a los que se enfrenta y al objetivo de la conversión del pueblo búlgaro; b) la aparición de Gog y Magog; c) la figura de los genios como seres importantes en la mentalidad árabe; y d) la concepción del Más Allá en relación con las prácticas funerarias. Con todo esto estudiaremos cómo se representa la escatología musulmana en este discutido e interesante texto, en el cual también nos pararemos a estudiar su genealogía y ediciones.
This article addresses the voyage of Ibn Fadlan, known as Kitab ilà Malik al-Saqaliba (10th Century), in order to identify, describe and analyse the eschatological elements which appear in it. To carry out this task, we analyse different eschatological elements: a) the redemptive aspect of the voyage, given his own fears and his aim to convert the Bulgars; b) the appearance of Gog and Magog; c) the importance of the figure of the genie to the Arabic worldview; and d) the idea of the afterlife as relates to funerary practices. In this way, we look at how Muslim eschatology is represented in this interesting and controversial document, as well as discussing its genealogy and different editions.
