    • The term readability is competing with that of comprehensibility. This opposition coresponds to a turning point in the history of research on factors which condition access to the meaning of a text. Is it always possible to attribute certain intrinsic features to a text, features which make it more or less difficult to understand and this independently of the reader and of the reading situation ? In which ways has the problem of readability been influenced by recent advances in linguistics and psycholinguistics ? This article attempts to answer these questions by comparing results obtained during the last ten years upon which current problems in readability are based.
