“¿Qué significa para ti ser un/a joven Mapuche hoy en Chile”? Dilema identitario en jóvenes Mapuches urbanos de la ciudad de Santiago

    El objetivo de este artículo es describir los dilemas identitarios en la interacción discursiva entre jóvenes Mapuche urbanos residentes en Santiago y una entrevistadora de la misma etnia ante la pregunta ¿qué significa para ti ser un/a joven Mapuche hoy en Chile”?. Nuestro foco son las acciones y estrategias discursivas de identificación étnica que despliegan los jóvenes para posicionarse (o no) en la categoría ‘Mapuche’. Asimismo, nos interesa develar formas de indexicalización del discurso a macroestructuras y contextos histórico-culturales que orientan y constriñen la relación entre el pueblo Mapuche y la nación chilena. El método analítico es la psicología discursiva presta especial atención al análisis de recursos emocionales, de posicionamiento y scripts mentales en interacción, como asimismo el análisis de la relación ideología-poder en las macroestructuras y contextos histórico-culturales de los que el joven Mapuche urbano forma parte. Los hallazgos muestran la presencia de cuatro categorías discursivas que develan la presencia de dilemas identitarios en los jóvenes urbanos: el orgullo de ser Mapuche, la discriminación reconocida o negada, sentirse Mapuche depende del espacio donde se reside (rural o urbano), y finalmente la ‘sangre’ y ‘raza’ en la historia del pueblo Mapuche y la nación chilena.

    The objective of this paper is describe the identity dilemmas that upsurge in the discursive interaction between urban Mapuche youngsters living in Santiago and a female Mapuche interviewer to the question ‘What does it mean for you to be a Mapuche youngster in Chile nowadays?. We focus on the discursive actions and strategies of ethnic identification that youngsters display to position (or not) themselves in the category ‘Mapuche’. Likewise, we reveal the ways in which they index to macrostructures and historical-cultural contexts, which orient and constrain the relationship between Mapuche people and the Chilean nation. The analytic method is discursive psychology which pays special attention to the analysis of emotional resources, positioning resources, and mental scripts in interactions. We also incorporate analysis of the relation ideology-power in the macrostructures and historical-cultural contexts of which the young urban Mapuche is part. Findings show the presence of four discursive categories revealing identity dilemmas in the urban youngsters. In this article we will focus in four categories: pride of being Mapuche, acknowledged or denied discrimination, feeling mapuche depending on the place of residence (rural or urban), and finally ‘blood’ and ‘race’ in the history of the Mapuche people and the Chilean nation.
