La Capilla de los Santos Mártires. Puesta en valor en el turismo religioso cordobés

    La capilla de los Santos Mártires situada en la iglesia parroquial de San Pedro (Córdoba) surge en un momento muy importante para la comunidad religiosa y en una de las épocas de esplendor del cristianismo. La Iglesia había asentado sus bases siglos antes con el concilio de Trento con el que volvía a surgir la exaltación hacia los martirios como medio para llegar al fiel. Todo ese fervor religioso que se llevaba respirando en la ciudad de Córdoba desde el siglo XVI, culmina en el siglo XVIII con la construcción de una capilla-osario. Espacio donde se albergan y adoran los restos óseos de los Santos Mártires caídos durante el imperio romano y la conquista musulmana. Córdoba, ciudad de las tres culturas, donde las diferentes poblaciones han ido asentándose y conviviendo a lo largo de los siglos dejando sus huellas históricas en la sociedad y en los edificios, fue centro de poder del califato y ejemplo de hegemonía cristiana durante la reconquista. Actualmente, dentro del panorama turístico, la vertiente religiosa ha destacado en importancia dentro de la vida de la ciudad. Desde el principal foco de atención turística, la Mezquita-Catedral, ejemplo de un pasado glorioso de las diversas religiones hasta las iglesias bajomedievales, modelos únicos de la reconquista cristiana. Dado el gran potencial turístico de la capilla, la cual nos ayuda a conocer mejor la devoción popular existente en Córdoba, plantearemos la inclusión de ésta dentro de diferentes proyectos culturales, a través de estrategias para su uso como recurso turístico.

    The Chapel of the Martyrs, located within St. Peter ́s church (Córdoba), was erected during one of the most special moment and the greatest era for the religious community and Christianity. The Church had settled her bases, lot of time ago since the Trento Council when, the exaltation of the martyrs, was used an instrument in order to reach more devotees. The religious fervour that featured the city of Cordoba since the XVI century, culminated in the XVIII with the construction of this ossuary-chapel that, still nowadays, hosts the bones of the saint martyrs who died during the Roman Empire and the Muslim conquer. Córdoba, defined as “the city of the three cultures”, has been the cradle of different populations, that have been able to coexist during centuries leaving, each of them, visible historical imprints in the society and the cultural heritage. It represented the Caliphate ́s power centre as well as a religious model during the Reconquest. The religious aspects have always been considered extremely important for the City ́s life, especially within the tourist panorama. From the main tourist attraction represented by the glorious Mezquita-Catedral, to the early medieval churches, unique example of the Christian Reconquista. Due to the high artistic potential of the Chapel, in this paper, we will propose the inclusion of this religious monument within the different cultural projects with the aim of converting it in a tourist resource.
