Este artigo intenciona refletir sobre a possibilidade de ler o romance Roliúde, de Homero Fonseca, como uma narrativa em que se “encena o passado histórico”, mais particularmente a história cultural do nordeste brasileiro na primeira metade do século XX. A chegada do cinema hollywoodiano e suas relações com o imaginário da cultura popular nordestina será a tônica da narrativa de Bibiu, um narrador, bem ao modo de Walter Benjamim, que ainda sabe contar histórias. A narrativa de Bibiu percorre quase um século, estabelecendo uma ponte entre os acontecimentos pessoais e históricos; ele é um narrador situado no presente que, usando dos recursos da memória cria uma narrativa em que mistura os elementos da cultura erudita e popular, efetivando, portanto, um panorama da vida cultural do nordeste brasileiro no tempo descrito.

This article intends to reflect on the possibility of reading the Homero Fonseca’s novel, Roliúde, as a narrative that “stages the historical past” more particularly the past of the cultural history of Brazilian northeastern in the first half of the twentieth century. The arrival of Hollywood cinema and its relations with the imagery of popular Northeastern culture will be the keynote of Bibiu's narrative, a narrator and the manner of Walter Benjamin, who still knows how to tell stories. The narrative of Bibiu runs through nearly a century, establishing a bridge between personal and historical events; he is a narrator situated in mind that using the memory resources creates a narrative that mixes elements of classical and popular culture, effecting therefore an overview of the cultural life of northeastern Brazil in the described time.
